Puppy Pictures

Here are more puppy pictures! These are a few taken over the Christmas holidays through last night. As you can tell, they are getting SO big. I took the puppies to the vet today and the largest one weighed 2lbs. 11oz. Their eyes should begin opening soon.

As you can see in one picture, the puppies have outgrown the pool that we originally had them in. They were beginning to crawl out which is never good! So, Mike built a bigger box for them to live in. Polly has plenty of room and so do the puppies. They especially like to climb under the ledge (which protects them from having Polly squish them against the wall).

Enjoy!

The Mark Adams Holiday Classic

Each year, Cary High School hosts a holiday wrestling tournament. In years past, Cary News has sponsored it and thus it was the Cary News Holiday Classic. This year, the school decided to re-name the tournament in memory of Mike's brother, Mark, who was killed in Iraq. Mark wrestled at Cary High all 4 years of high school and after serving 4 years as a Marine, he helped coach the Wrestling team while attending college.

Mike's family was proud and honored to be able to attend the 1st annual Mark Adams Holiday Classic. They also assisted in the hospitality room and with the awards ceremony. Here are a few pictures of the event.

Hard Night

On Saturday night, we got home and discovered that one puppy had died. We are not sure what happened to her. It was a hard night but we were thankful that the other puppies were doing well. They all seem to be healthy and feeding well.

Polly is still doing well but we are beginning to tell that she craves as much attention as ever right now. She will sometimes get out of the pool that we keep the puppies in and come over to sit near or on us. After a little loving...and a few squeaks from the pups...she quickly returns to them.

Dinner Time and Snuggles

Polly and puppies are all still doing well. We are heading to the vet tomorrow (Saturday) to get their tails docked and due claws removed. They are so fun to watch as they scoot around and walk over each other, especially when they want to eat! They will push another pup out of their way to get something to eat. At least one will snuggle with Polly during group dinner time and will wait for the others to finish before going over. We're going to try to keep watch to see if it is the same one each time that snuggles or just random ones that don't feel like fighting at that time.

Here are some Day One videos and pictures

Polly is doing great and is a great Mom. She has stayed close by to her puppies all day and gets a nap in when she can. It still amazes me that she knows exactly what to do to take care of the pups. The puppies all seem to be healthy and active. They are all about the same size...no runts here!

They are figuring out the feeding process and doing a great job of knocking others out of the way to get to the "nibblet." Sleeping, eating, and squeaking seem to be the highlights of their day. Their eyes will not open for a week or two so they just scoot around to where they think they want to go.

We're proud to announce...

Polly has puppies!!

I (Miriam) had to go into work for a little while on Wednesday and received a call from Mike that "Polly was acting funny" but that he had to leave for an appointment. So, as soon as I finished my conference call, I hurried home. When I drove up, Polly met me at the door barking. It was like she was saying, "Hurry up, come see!!

I walked in and found that she already had 2 puppies on her own before I had gotten home! They were so small and making little noises. Shortly after that, #3 arrived. The next 5 puppies arrived about 20-30 minutes apart with a couple only 10 or so minutes apart. So, 8 puppies! I emailed the news and cleaned up her area and put down fresh towels and sheets. I was sitting with her and just watching the puppies and to our surprise - out came another one - #9!! She came about 2 hours after #8. So, the final count is 9 - 3 boys and 6 girls.

Mike was able to finally see them when he got home around 6:30 and could not believe it! We have just been watching them and touching them. I slept in the living room nearby last night and would wake up at the little noises that the puppies made. They just walk and flip over each other and lay all over each other.

I'll try to post pictures of them every few days.

We hope YOU had a Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

We enjoyed a LOT of food on the fine china and crystal.
(Here's one of the food tables. We forgot to take many pictures at lunch - guess we were too busy eating!)

Then, Mike and Phillip threw the football while the ladies looked at the "Black Friday" sale papers.

Catch up Post

Mike was able to go to Northern California and Portland, Oregon for a Forestry conference with NC State. He was gone for a week. During the first part of the trip, he went camping in Northern California with 4 other guys from his forestry classes to see the Redwoods and Crater Lake. Then the last half, they attended the Forestry conference in Portland. Here are a few picturs of the trip.

How big do you think this tree was?

Can you see Mike? Can you believe it was THAT big?!?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY POLLY!!

Today is Polly's birthday. The big 0-3! We love having her as a part of our life and can't imagine life without her...although we would have a lot more room in our bed and less Frosty Paws in the freezer! For those of you without dogs, Frosty Paws is ice cream for dogs. Happy Birthday Polly!

Videos from Dinner with the Gainors

For those of you who have ever downloaded videos to your BLOG, you will appreciate! WOW!

Dinner with the Gainors

On Thursday night, the Gainors stopped by for dinner. We are sure glad they are back in the States and we were able to visit with them. The Gainors lived in Slovakia for 2 years. You may remember that Mike and I visited them in November. They are moving to Bluffton, SC to work with Crosspoint Church to plant churches in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area. Here are a few pictures.

Cool Passage

I came across this on the September 17 devotion in Streams in the Desert which is a daily devotional book.

1 Samuel 3:18 “It is the Lord: let Him do what seemeth Him good.”

Nothing else but seeing God in everything will make us loving and patient with those who annoy and trouble us. They will be to us then only instruments for accomplishing His tender and wise purposes towards us, and we shall even find ourselves at last inwardly thanking them for the blessings they bring us. Nothing else will completely put an end to all murmuring or rebelling thoughts. – H.W. Smith

This reminds me of the verses in James 1:2-4. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perserverance. Perserverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Catch up Time

Nothing really new to report but I see that it has been 2 weeks since the last post and I hate it when I keep checking people's blogs and they haven't updated theirs!

Mike is back in school and working on Saturdays with NCSU Forestry at the university owned forests. This is a work/study program so he gets to use his forestry skills and prepare for future work. He is looking forward to graduating next year.

Miriam is back in the ladies Monday night Bible study at church and doing Beth Moore's study of Daniel. (It is really good!)

This past weekend, we got together with Mike's family
and had a good time in GREAT weather! I love these Fall days when it is in the 70s during the day and 50s at night.

The Miller family has had a few birthdays recently:
David started it out on the 4th, followed by Dad on the 11th, and then Bec on the 16th.

Happy Birthday!!

Last Summer Beach Trip

On our way home from Athens, we decided to go to the beach. We spent the night in Wilmington and had dinner downtown at the Brewery. On Monday, we packed up and headed to Topsail Island for some fun in the sun! Polly stayed over at friends house for the weekend and was glad to see us when we picked her up on Monday evening. Here are a few pictures from the beach.

Fun Weekend with Old Friends

This weekend we went down to Athens, GA to visit with Miriam's friends from SWAT. We had a reunion of sorts with SWAT leaders from the past 15 years. We were able to hang out and catch up and watch a lot of football. We were able to watch the GA game on the big screen with some friends at Jon's house.
